Her journey begins with a love for textures and colours — from the soft fabrics of fashion design to the sturdy surfaces of pottery.

Bushra bint Saif al Kindiyah has carved her unique path by transforming everyday objects like fabrics and pottery into striking works of art — veritable living canvases that breathe life into her creative vision.

A graduate of Fashion Design from the Scientific College of Design, Bushra dared to venture beyond her classroom, embracing diverse mediums in her quest to express her artistic identity.

“I started by painting on fabric”, she recounts, her voice tinged with enthusiasm. The natural progression led her to explore face painting for children, a playful venture that sharpened her skills and ignited her passion. Later, she became captivated by pottery, mastering the art of painting on its surfaces. To Bushra, art isn’t merely a craft; it’s a language that infuses objects with personality and soul, forging meaningful connections with viewers.

A significant milestone in her career was her participation in the Oman Across Ages Museum exhibition, where she showcased her brand, Avocado. She describes this experience as “truly unique”, since every piece was entirely hand-painted — without any printing or replication — allowing the artistry to shine in its purest form. The event not only elevated her profile but also provided a platform to immerse herself in Oman’s vibrant artistic community and network with other ambitious entrepreneurs.

The response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive. Both locals and tourists expressed admiration as they studied her intricate designs with keen eyes. One of the standout pieces was an artwork inspired by vintage postage stamps adorned with Omani butterflies, which became the centrepiece of her display. The praise and encouragement she received served as a reminder of the power of authentic craftsmanship.

Her development as an artist has been further supported by various workshops and programmes organised by national institutions. These include the Pottery and Creative Crafts programme by the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises, the ‘Tamkeen 2’ initiative by the Youth Centre — where she was recognised among the top five independent projects — and the ‘Banat Oman’ programme by Jabr Company. She emphasises that these initiatives have equipped her with vital skills for managing her enterprise, discovering her true artistic calling and connecting with like-minded creatives exchanging invaluable experiences.

According to Bushra, such official support is crucial for aspiring artists. “They help young people understand the realities of freelancing and show how to turn their talents into sustainable livelihoods”, she explains.

Despite her diverse portfolio, Bushra affirms she has cultivated a distinctive style. “Every piece I create is infused with genuine emotion — they’re not just fleeting artworks. Many clients say they can recognise my style even without my signature”. This personal touch has given her work an unmistakable identity, reflecting her very essence.

Looking to the future, Bushra hopes to spread the message that painting is more than just colours and lines — it is a living art form. She aspires for the name Avocado to gain wider recognition, as she continues to showcase her entirely handcrafted works in upcoming exhibitions.

The story behind her brand name is as inspiring as her work. During a period of dieting, she noticed how many salads contained avocado. She fell in love with its taste, its shape and even decided to grow her own tree. Watching it flourish became a symbol of resilience and patience — qualities she attributes to her artistic journey. The avocado, she says, embodies her perseverance and determination.

With unwavering passion, Bushra bint Saif al Kindiyah continues to craft her artistic narrative, demonstrating that creativity knows no bounds when driven by love and perseverance. Her story is a testament to how Omani art can reach a global stage — rooted in sincerity, nurtured by skill, and painted with a brush full of life.
