The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism today inaugurated the fourth edition of the Meteorite Exhibition in cooperation with the Directorate General of Education in North A'Sharqiyah Governorate. The exhibition is being held at the Scientific Discovery Center in the Wilayat of Ibra.
Sumaya Hamad Al Busaidi, Director of Heritage and Tourism in North A'Sharqiyah Governorate, stated: "The opening of this exhibition is a culmination of the Ministry's efforts to highlight the importance of meteorites, ensure their sustainable investment, and enhance the museum system. This contributes to diversifying heritage and tourism destinations and attracting more visitors."
She explained that the exhibition offers a unique experience for astronomy and space enthusiasts, featuring a collection of rare and distinctive meteorites. Among the samples are the Ureilite meteorite, composed of silicate minerals rich in magnesium and iron, and the Eucrite meteorite, whose fall was recorded in 2010 in Al Wusta Governorate. Visitors will also have the opportunity to touch the Jiddat al Harasis 91 meteorite, which is part of the largest documented meteorite fall in the Sultanate of Oman.
The exhibition is expected to attract a wide turnout from all age groups, offering visitors a chance to learn about these exceptional meteorite samples. The exhibition will run until March 1, 2026, giving researchers, students, and interested individuals ample time to explore the world of meteorites and delve into their science.
