MUSCAT: Muscat Family Physicians’ Group, in association with Jeevaniyam Ayurvedic Hospital, Cochin, India, and Global Treatment Services, organised an International Medical Conference on September 19, at City Seasons Hotel.
Dr Reshmi Pramod, Founder and CEO of Jeevaniyam Ayurvedic Hospital, was the guest speaker, delivering a session on 'Integrated Management for Autism', with a focus on sensory integration therapy and AI-based rehabilitation.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex condition characterised by communication challenges, repetitive behaviours and sensory sensitivities. Given its multifaceted nature, a single system of medicine or isolated therapies is often insufficient.
Experts highlighted that integrating evidence-based therapies with multiple medical systems addresses the underlying biological processes, promoting holistic development for affected individuals and enhancing the psychosocial well-being of their families.
The conference also showcased the first research work in Ayurveda related to autism under the Agasthya Protocol. Emphasis was placed on integrated therapies, including sensory integration therapy, AI-driven rehabilitation and immersive therapy rooms, which aim to shift care from reactive to proactive, ultimately transforming the lives of individuals with neurodiversity.
The event was attended by over 60 leading practitioners in Oman, including paediatricians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, family physicians, ER specialists, and practitioners of Ayurvedic and homoeopathic medicine, as well as therapists working with children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
The conference concluded with an interactive session. Dr Sanjay Dalal, Founder of Muscat Family Physicians’ Group, emphasised the growing number of children in Oman affected by autism and neurodevelopmental disorders and underscored the importance of spreading awareness among parents and the public. “A coordinated effort by doctors from different specialties and therapists, leveraging the latest technology, is essential to effectively treat these children and support their families,” he said.
