AL RUSTAQ: The First Al Batinah South Nutrition Conference opened at Al Rustaq Wali’s Office Hall under the theme 'Obesity in Children: From Medical Interventions to Community Support.'
Organised by the Directorate-General of Health Services in Al Batinah South Governorate and accredited by the Oman Medical Specialty Board, the conference brought together around 100 doctors, nurses, nutritionists and health educators.
The event highlighted childhood obesity as a growing health concern, driven by lifestyle changes such as high-calorie diets, sugar-sweetened beverages and reduced physical activity.
Experts noted that addressing obesity early can significantly reduce future healthcare costs.
The conference aimed to deepen understanding of the biology and complications of childhood obesity, enhance healthcare professionals’ skills in treatment and prevention, and promote effective nutritional assessment methods. It also explored behavioural interventions, physical activity, medical treatments, and the psychological and social impacts of obesity.
Held under the auspices of Dr Yahya bin Sulaiman al Nadabi, Wali of Al Rustaq, the conference featured scientific lectures and working papers that examined obesity from multiple perspectives. - ONA
