Muscat: The Child Culture Centre at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth launched a pioneering digital initiative, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, to integrate traditional Omani folk games into a modern digital environment. The project comes as part of efforts to safeguard the nation’s intangible cultural heritage and reinforce its presence among younger generations, while employing advanced technology to revive Omani cultural traditions through a dedicated folk games application.

Omani culture stands as a mirror of national identity and authenticity, shaped by an ancient civilisation that stretches back thousands of years. It serves as a bridge linking the past with the present, fostering belonging and pride in identity. Culture is also a cornerstone in shaping the future, supporting sustainable development, and enhancing Oman’s regional and international standing by reflecting values of tolerance, coexistence, and peace.

The preservation and modern development of this cultural legacy is of vital importance, ensuring that it remains a living testament to Oman’s authenticity while inspiring generations to come. It also contributes to raising a generation proud of its identity, citizenship, and heritage, and committed to preserving, documenting, and sharing it globally — in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the national cultural strategy aimed at strengthening awareness of Omani identity both locally and internationally.

Salwa bint Saif al Rashdiya, Supervisor of the Child Culture Centre, said the centre has been implementing a variety of digital projects in recent years to realise its vision of nurturing a generation proud of its cultural and national identity, while equipping them with skills and competencies suited to rapid technological and scientific changes. Among these projects is the development of Omani folk games applications such as Al Anbar and Al Sayyad, recreated in 3D using advanced gaming engines.
