MUSCAT: The Child Care and Youth Hostels Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development, launched the Innovation Club, on Saturday.

The club aims to educate children and young people about innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship as well as help and guide them to translate their ideas and proposals into reality. It also aims to transition them from the use of conventional handicraft tools to AI-powered technologies.

Commenting on the importance of the Innovation Club at the Child Care and Youth Hostels Center, Salma bint Ali al Alawiyah, Director of the Centre, said that the club would contribute to developing creativity among young people and orphans and enhancing skills and values that foster a culture of innovation at the Center and creating an environment that encourages innovation and investment. The club will also help them utilize their free time in a manner that benefits them and keep pace with future requirements, helping and supporting them to establish entrepreneurial projects based on innovation and artificial intelligence technologies.

She added: “The Innovation Club targets to groom 85 children and young people from the Child Care Center, and 79 young people from the youth hostels, to use AI-powered technologies. The club would enhance the skills of children and young people and instill a culture of creativity and innovation within them enabling them to become self-reliant by starting up small businesses. It will also build partnerships between the Child Care Centre, youth hostels, companies, and institutions to develop a base of qualified Omani cadres who possess modern skills and knowledge tools. Another goal is to build strategic partnerships with local, regional, and international institutions and children and young people in local, regional, and international innovation competitions. The club will be operational in several phases the first of which will be training female employees who will later train children and young people followed by further training for the children and young people. Several agreements will be signed with academies specializing in programming and artificial intelligence to operate the club and maximize its benefits. — ONA
