

SALALAH: An introductory workshop on the Vocational and Technical Education Programme for the Travel and Tourism track was held on Monday at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah.
Organised by the Directorate-General of Education in Dhofar Governorate, the event brought together specialists, academics and students.
The opening of the workshop was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The programme featured two visual presentations: the first focused on the implementation of the Travel and Tourism track and Dhofar Education’s preparations to activate it, while the second highlighted inspiring Omani success stories in the sector, emphasising the role of determination and innovation in building a distinguished career path.
A dialogue session titled 'Vocational and Technical Education: Travel and Tourism Specialisation' was also held, with the participation of Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Mahrooqi, Dean of Oman Tourism College, Dr Hassan Abdullah Eidid, an academic specialising in tourism and event management at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Salalah, Dr Atoom al Khatheri, Director of the Department of Guidance and Student Services at the Directorate-General of Vocational and Technical Education, Ministry of Education, and Dr Abdulkarim bin Ahmed al Mashaikhi, Assistant Director of the Department of Vocational Guidance and Student Counselling in the Directorate-General of Education in Dhofar.
The workshop aimed to introduce the Travel and Tourism track within the vocational and technical education framework in Dhofar Governorate, highlighting its importance as a key driver for economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.
It also emphasised the role of educational and academic institutions in preparing and qualifying national competencies and showcased successful Omani experiences to inspire students and parents about the future of this field. - ONA
