ASTANA, SEPT 7
Oman and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in financial regulation, share expertise and develop market infrastructure. The signing took place during the Astana Financial Conference in Kazakhstan.
The agreement was signed by Abdullah bin Salem al Salmi, Executive President of the Financial Services Authority — Oman and Madina Abilkasimova, Chairperson of the Kazakh Agency for Financial Market Regulation and Development.
Under the MoU, both countries will collaborate to support the “Tawasul” platform, a regional initiative linking stock exchanges, facilitating cross-border trading and boosting market liquidity to attract international investors and promote regional integration.
Both sides also commit to exchanging regulatory knowledge and expert visits, supporting joint research and capacity building; and human resource development to strengthen their legal and regulatory frameworks. The MoU also emphasises the importance of fintech innovation, financial literacy and financial inclusion initiatives.
This agreement reflects the longstanding and close ties between Oman and Kazakhstan, strengthened through high-level visits, trade delegations and joint initiatives in sectors such as energy, logistics, investment, education and tourism.
Oman’s Financial Services Authority previously signed a similar MoU with Astana Financial Services Authority in 2023, further deepening bilateral collaboration in financial markets. — ONA
