MOSCOW: Russia on Thursday expelled an Estonian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move, after the Nato country ejected one of Moscow's envoys for interfering in its internal affairs.

Relations between Tallinn and its large eastern neighbour have been souring over two decades, but worsened after Russia sent troops into Ukraine in 2022.

"A diplomatic corps member of the Estonian Embassy in Moscow is being expelled from Russia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It said this was in direct response to Tallinn's "groundless" expulsion of a Russian diplomat in August.

Estonia said the Russian diplomat it expelled had been "directly and actively involved in undermining the constitutional order and legal system of Estonia".
