Muscat: The Ministry of Information (MoI) held its second meeting with representatives of private digital media outlets to address sector challenges and outline future plans for Oman’s evolving media landscape.

The session, chaired by Dr Mohammed al Hinai, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Publications and Artistic Works, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with private institutions.

He stressed adherence to content standards, administrative frameworks and legal guidelines, while emphasising the media’s responsibility to embody national values, uphold accuracy and combat misinformation through fact-checking.

Al Hinai also highlighted the importance of investing in capacity building, including training presenters, refining language use, and engaging international experts to enhance programme quality and expand professional expertise.

Private media representatives welcomed the ministry’s initiatives.

Jawaher al Siyabi, Founder of Wasm Digital Platform, described the meetings as vital for addressing shared challenges and facilitating smoother communication.

Mohammed al Lawati of Oyoon Digital Channel praised the ministry’s support, calling it a catalyst for innovation and sustainability. The ministry announced plans to host a major media gathering that will unite all Omani digital platforms alongside international media entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and regional partnerships.

Officials stressed that these regular meetings are part of broader efforts to align with Oman’s Renewed Renaissance, reinforcing media as a cornerstone of sustainable national development.
