The Shura office reviews ministerial responses

MUSCAT: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura held its 14th regular meeting of the 2nd annual sitting of the 10th term under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, on Tuesday.

The meeting reviewed the response to the request expressed by the Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee regarding the services provided by cultural attachés to the Omani students studying abroad.

The response stressed the government accords a great attention to the Omanis studying abroad, through continuous coordination and effective integration between relevant authorities. It added that the government is keen on highlighting and disseminating the Sultanate of Oman’s cultural heritage in these countries.

The meeting also reviewed the Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee’s report on the employment of female graduates majoring in information technology. The report included details of the procedures for studying and addressing the issue of employment and the committee’s proposals in this regard.

The office members reviewed the response provided by the Minister of Labour to a briefing request regarding the employment of graduates majoring in oral and dental medicine and surgery. The response indicated that the issue is primarily related to the health sector and suggested discussing it with the Health Sector Governance Committee.

Also discussed during the meeting was the report of the Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee’s report on financial allocations for internal scholarship students at private higher education institutions. The report indicated disparity in financial allocations for students enrolled in public and private higher education institutions, in addition to varying eligibility criteria. The committee recommended that the issue should be reviewed and studied.

The office reviewed ministerial responses to parliamentary questions submitted by the members of Majlis Ash’shura. These included the response of the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation to the question regarding academic efforts to exploit discovered and undiscovered natural resources in the Sultanate of Oman. The response indicated that the ministry has worked to strengthen relations with the public and private sectors with the aim of encouraging them to support and adopt research projects and forging partnerships with the Ministry to achieve a knowledge-based economy. It said that the ministry is implementing a set of programmes that support research activities.

The office members also reviewed a number of questions submitted by the members of Majlis Ash’shura and approved their referral to the relevant authorities.
