SALALAH: Oman TV’s popular summer programme Khareef Nights wrapped up its 2025 season on August 31 after a month of nightly broadcasts from Dhofar, the only part of the Arabian Peninsula that experiences the monsoon. The season transforms Dhofar’s mountains into lush green hills under mist and drizzle, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Directed by Nawaf al Huraizi and produced by Mohammed bin Ahmed al Salimi al Mahri, the programme aired daily between 9 and 10 pm on Oman TV General and Oman TV Cultural.

Filmed live from Awdat al Madhi, a heritage village in Salalah celebrating traditional crafts, music and food, the show also moved weekly to diverse settings - from farmland to Bedouin tents - spotlighting the region’s culture and hospitality.

Al Huraizi noted that the aim was to capture the 'full character of the Khareef' by showcasing not only the unique climate but also the traditions and people of Dhofar. He stressed that the programme serves as a platform to promote the governorate as a leading tourism destination.

Presented by alternating pairs, Abdullah al Sabbah with Mashael al Qasmi, and Abdullah Safrar with Khadija al Maamari, the show was fully produced by an Omani technical crew. Al Huraizi praised this as proof of Oman’s growing broadcasting talent.

The programme featured a blend of live interviews, field reports and cultural segments, ranging from tourist hotspots and children’s events in the 'Khareef Village' to conversations with artisans and elders.

Each week, one episode spotlighted a different governorate, broadening the show’s scope to highlight Oman’s cultural diversity.

Al Huraizi said that though the programme ended in August, its message continues. Khareef is more than a season of rain - it is a living celebration of Oman’s culture, heritage and natural beauty, worthy of global recognition.
