Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has urged parents to encourage safe practices among their children when travelling on school buses as part of efforts to ensure student safety during the new academic year.

The awareness message, issued under the theme “For a safe school journey”, highlights the importance of instilling safe behaviour during pick-up, travel and drop-off.

Parents were advised to remind their children to wait for the bus in a safe location away from traffic and to board or disembark only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

The guidelines stressed that students should avoid extending their hands or heads outside the bus windows and refrain from distracting the driver in any way. Children were also urged not to cross the street until the bus has moved on and the road is clear of vehicles.

The ministry said the campaign aims to reduce risks and support a safe and healthy learning environment, calling on families to play an active role in reinforcing road safety awareness among schoolchildren.
