MUSCAT: The Oman national team head coach, Carlos Queiroz, unveiled a 30-player squad for the upcoming external camp in Türkiye and the Central Asian Football Association (Cafa) Nations League 2025. The camp will serve as a vital stage in the Red Warriors’ preparations for the decisive AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 2026.
The newly announced roster included four goalkeepers. However, Al Shabab’s promising goalkeeper Abdulrahman al Badri was not selected on this occasion, marking a notable change in the squad list. Queiroz’s selection otherwise reflects consistency, with the majority of names carried over from the previous camp, signalling the coach’s intent to build continuity and trust within his core group.
Seeb Club players returned to the national setup after missing the earlier domestic camp due to their commitments in the AFC Cup playoff. Their inclusion is expected to strengthen the squad with added depth and experience, particularly in midfield and attack.
The veteran Portuguese coach also delivered an inspiring message to his players and fans through his official Instagram account. In his statement, Queiroz highlighted the significance of the mission ahead and the honour of representing the nation:
“After thorough observation and analysis, this is the call-up list of players for our next stage of preparations for the World Cup. The people of Oman dream of qualification, and our fans deserve this reward. We have the privilege and honour to serve and bring glory and pride to our nation. It is often when everyone thinks it is impossible that great victories begin. We are aware of the enormous challenge and risks, but greatness belongs to those who dare to attempt the improbable. We must be willing to pay the price of hard work and sacrifice, but in the end, our journey will be legendary in the service of Omani football.”
The Türkiye camp, which kicks off on Wednesday, will run for seven days and is expected to include friendly matches against Turkish clubs, subject to confirmation. Following the camp, the Red Warriors will head directly to Uzbekistan to participate in the Cafa Nations League, which runs from August 26 to September 9.
Oman are drawn into Group A of the tournament alongside Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Group B will feature Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and India. The competition will provide a valuable platform for Queiroz and his players to test themselves against regional rivals and fine-tune their preparations ahead of October’s Asian Qualifiers matches against Qatar and the UAE.
