Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) recovered a total of RO 2,232,000 in favour of consumers across the Sultanate of Oman during the first half of 2025, reflecting its ongoing efforts to safeguard consumer rights and resolve complaints through amicable settlements between consumers and suppliers.

The recoveries covered various sectors and disputes, underscoring the Authority’s commitment to ensuring fair treatment and the quality of goods and services provided in the market.

In one notable case, the CPA successfully resolved a complaint filed against a company operating in the field of furniture, furnishings and curtain sales in Muscat.

The consumer had purchased a bedroom set for RO 600 and reported experiencing burning sensations and eye irritation from the day after the furniture was installed. She attributed the symptoms to unusual odours emitted from the wood, rendering the room unusable.

Despite her attempts to contact the company via social media and phone, and a subsequent partial replacement of the furniture, the issue persisted without a satisfactory response from the supplier. The consumer then lodged a complaint with the Authority.

The CPA summoned the parties involved and facilitated an amicable settlement under which the full purchase amount was refunded to the consumer.

The Authority reaffirmed its determination to address complaints effectively and ensure that both product quality and consumer safety remain paramount in the marketplace.
