Ibri: The latest road mishap that occurred in Ibri has made the road users once again urge the authorities to look into improving the road design in Al Rahba area.
It has been described as an accident-prone area.
Rescue and ambulance teams in Al Dahirah Governorate responded to a collision accident between two trucks that occurred in Al Rahba area of Wilayat Ibri.
The accident resulted in the death of three individuals and caused a critical injury to another person; emergency medical care was provided to them at the scene, and they were transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
“Due to the high number of traffic accidents caused by the steep descent combined with a sharp turn, it is unsuitable for trucks as well as light vehicles. We, the residents of the area and those who travel this road, suffer from the danger of this place, making it necessary to change the route,” said Abu Abdulaziz al Mamari.
“This street needs to be reorganized,” noted Saif al Kalbani.
“This is not the first time, as lives have been lost in this same location due to the danger of the descent and ascent. We urgently request finding a solution,” pointed out Hilal al Maamari.
Al Dhahirah Governorate includes three wilayats: Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank. Ibri, which is about 280 km from Muscat, is considered the center of the governorate. A distinct feature of the wilayat is that its unique location connects the Sultanate with other regions in the Arabian Peninsula, which was why in the past it was a crossing point for trade caravans.
Ibri is currently a center for marble quarrying and is also now in the limelight for solar energy.
Ibri is connected by road to Al-Ain, UAE, through the Mezyad border post near Jebel Hafeet. This road also goes through the Wilayat of Dhank and to Nizwa.
In September 2021, a road between Oman and Saudi Arabia was completed. All of which makes the roads of the wilayat busy.
Recently, a contract for implementing the Ibri Public Park project in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah was signed, with an investment exceeding RO 5 million. This groundbreaking project is considered to be the first of its kind in the governorate in terms of scale and comprehensiveness, spanning 200,000 square meters with a 20-month implementation period.
