Moderate earthquake strikes southeastern Iran, no impact on Oman

Muscat: The Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University reported that a moderate earthquake struck southeastern Iran on Tuesday morning, registering a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale.

The tremor was recorded at 9:06 am local time at a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located in the Sistan and Baluchestan region, approximately 305 kilometres northeast of the wilayat of Khasab.

No impact was reported within the Sultanate of Oman and EMC confirmed that the seismic event poses no threat to Oman.

The centre continues to closely monitor regional seismic activity.
