Moderate earthquake recorded in Dhofar region

Muscat: The Earthquake Monitoring Center at Sultan Qaboos University on Sunday reported a moderate earthquake in the Dhofar Governorate, specifically near the Hallaniyat Islands in the Wilayat of Shalim. The earthquake, measured at a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 2:32 PM local time.


The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 155 kilometers northeast of Salalah, at a shallow depth of 4 kilometers.


According to the Earthquake Monitoring Center, the tremor was noticeable but no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been issued.


The center continues to monitor seismic activity in the region closely.
