MUSCAT: The Smash Series Badminton Tournament, organised by ProEdge Sports as part of the Sports Spark initiative at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), came to an electrifying close, offering a refreshing escape for sports lovers during the scorching summer. Over four days, more than 200 badminton players competed across nine categories, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic spectators who filled the air-conditioned courts with energy and excitement.


In the Under-11 Girls' Singles, Vamika Vinod emerged champion while Diya Balaji was runner-up. The Boys' Under-11 saw Shazil Mohammed claim the title, with Aditya Singhal as runner-up. In the Under-15 Girls’ category, Shenelly Louis triumphed over runner-up Pallavi Abhilash Nair. Aman D’Costa won the Boys' Under-15, with Ian George as runner-up.


The Under-19 Girls' title went to Uttara Abhilash Nair, with Ameenah Sehr as runner-up, while Himnesh Shahalot won the Boys' Under-19 against Vaibhav Ramdas. In the Mixed Doubles, Beetha Mansoori and Vaishakh Nair took the crown. The Men’s 'B' Doubles title went to the duo of Jebin Jacob and Sandeep, while Anis Lal and Nithesh emerged as champions in the highly competitive Men’s 'A' Doubles category.


The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Oman Racket Sports Committee Vice-Chairman Tahir al Barwani, Sabco Sports Deputy General Manager Alistair, OCEC Operations Manager Safiya Hassan Sal al Abri, We Network Solutions Managing Director Yogendra Katyar, and Mohammed Ghulum Fajwani, Chairman of MBC. Match officials and referees from the Morning Star Badminton Group were also honoured for their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament. Sabco Sports officials commended ProEdge Sports for organising such a dynamic event and emphasised the value of sporting activities in providing both recreation and wellness, even during peak summer.


Chairman of ProEdge Sports, Nasar Abdullah al Harthy, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response received for the tournament, despite the summer vacation season and many families being away. He emphasised how events like this promote not only sporting enthusiasm but also a healthier lifestyle, and confirmed that the tournament will be organised on an even larger scale in the coming years.


Sports Spark at OCEC remains open daily until August 16, offering more opportunities for families and fitness enthusiasts to engage in exciting indoor sports and recreational activities.
