

MUSCAT, JULY 29
The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) announced on Monday the approved list of the clubs that will take part in the 2025-2026 AGCFF Gulf Cup Champions League which returns to action after a long absence. The Al Nahda club will represent the Sultanate of Oman in this Gulf event.
This regional tournament will be held under the umbrella of the AGCFF and feature eight clubs nominated by the respective national football associations of the GCC member states. It is expected that the AGCFF Gulf Cup Champions League will begin in October and conclude in April 2026. The draw for the event will take place in August or September. The playing format of the event will see the eight teams distributed into two groups as each group will feature four teams. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals.
The approved list of participating clubs included eight teams including: Al Ain Club – representative of the UAE Football Association, Sitra Club – representative of the Bahrain Football Association, Al Shabab Club – representative of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Zakho Club – representative of the Iraq Football Association, Al Nahda Club – representative of the Oman Football Association, Al Rayyan Club – representative of the Qatar Football Association, Tadhamon Hadhramout Club – representative of the Yemen Football Association and Al Qadsia Club – representative of the Kuwait Football Association.
This formal confirmation comes as part of the ongoing preparations for the highly anticipated edition of the championship which will aim to enhance football competitiveness among Gulf clubs besides fostering technical exchange, and contributing to the professional development of football in the region.
Shabab Al Ahli from the UAE had won the title three times along with Saudi clubs Ahli Club and Al Ittifaq. The GCC Champions League is considered as one of prestigious platform for clubs in the Gulf region to showcase their talent, tactical strength and footballing heritage. It will act as an opportunity to raise the level of competition and deepen cooperation between member associations.
The previous edition of the tournament saw Iraq’s Duhok Club crowned champions after a thrilling two-legged final against Kuwait’s Al Qadsia Club. Duhok secured a dramatic 2-1 victory in the return leg, clinching the title and setting a high bar for the tournament’s future.
