Muscat: The Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has affirmed that it is “the sole authorized official body to collect donations from individuals and institutions within the Sultanate of Oman for delivering humanitarian aid outside the Sultanate, applicable under laws and regulations.
In light of the circulating demands and appeals for urgent humanitarian aid to our people in the Gaza Strip, the OCO said that government attaches great importance to and continuously monitors this humanitarian issue, and is committed to enabling the Authority to perform its role in a manner that achieves the objectives of Omani relief work in an organized and effective manner.
"Since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza, the OCA has launched its humanitarian efforts by providing urgent aid from within the local market until supplies run out. Sixteen direct airlifts were operated to Egypt and Jordan, carrying relief and medical aid, in addition to receiving the first batch of war-wounded for treatment in the Sultanate of Oman."
It added, "Since the crossings were completely closed to everyone, no humanitarian aid has been allowed in from various parties and organizations, including the OCA and it continues its efforts on a weekly and ongoing basis in coordination with: the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Cairo, the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Amman, the Egyptian Red Crescent, the Palestinian Red Crescent, and the Jordanian Red Crescent, to monitor developments regarding the opening of the crossings and ensure the Authority's full readiness to bring in aid as soon as the opportunity arises."
