Electricity production in Oman grows by 11% until end of April 2025

Muscat: Electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman recorded a notable increase of 11 per cent by the end of April 2025, reaching 13,479.8 gigawatt-hours compared to 12,142.3 gigawatt-hours during the same period in 2024, according to preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


Muscat Governorate registered the highest growth rate in electricity production, surging by 195.9 per cent to 93.9 gigawatt-hours. Production in the governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah also rose by 2.8 per cent to reach 2,659.6 gigawatt-hours, while Musandam Governorate posted a 16.6 per cent increase with a total production of 128.2 gigawatt-hours.


In contrast, the combined production in the governorates of North and South al Batinah and al Dhahirah reached 7,970.9 gigawatt-hours, marking a 5.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.


However, Dhofar Governorate recorded a 4.5 per cent decline in electricity output, which stood at 1,699.1 gigawatt-hours.


Likewise, al Wusta Governorate saw a 3.2 per cent decrease in production, amounting to 42.3 gigawatt-hours.


Statistics further indicated an 11.5 per cent rise in net electricity production across the Sultanate, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company across various regions.


Net output totalled 13,103.7 gigawatt-hours by the end of April 2025, compared to 11,748.5 gigawatt-hours during the same period in 2024.


Meanwhile, the volume of water produced in Oman until the end of April 2025 saw a slight decrease of 0.6 per cent, reaching approximately 162.364 million cubic metres, compared to 163.309 million cubic metres during the corresponding period in 2024.
