Muscat: The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center of the Civil Aviation Authority has issued weather alerts today, warning of unstable atmospheric conditions over several parts of Oman. These include moderate-intensity downburst winds and thunderstorms, expected to impact areas of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, and North Al Sharqiyah.

The alert for downburst winds came into effect at 2:00 PM and is expected to bring sudden gusts that may affect visibility and outdoor activities, particularly in open and elevated areas. This phenomenon, often associated with convective storm activity, can pose risks to transportation and exposed infrastructure.

A separate alert was issued earlier at 1:30 PM regarding anticipated thunderstorms in the same regions. These storms may be accompanied by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and a risk of flash flooding, especially in valleys and low-lying terrain. Localized impacts such as reduced visibility and possible water accumulation are expected.

As of 1:55 PM, weather conditions across the Sultanate continue to show signs of convective development. Cloud cover is increasing along the coastal regions of the Sea of Oman and over South Al Sharqiyah, raising the likelihood of scattered showers. In Dhofar Governorate, monsoon-season clouds are intensifying over the coast and surrounding mountains, bringing the chance of light drizzle. Cumulus cloud formation has also begun over the Al Hajar Mountains, suggesting that further thunderstorm development is likely as the day progresses.

Authorities urge the public to stay alert and follow official weather updates.
