New Hijri Year 1447 to begin on Friday

Muscat:The Main Moonsighting Committee tasked with determining the new crescent moons of Hijri months, which met in Muscat on Wednesday, announced that tomorrow, Thursday, June 26 is the last day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH and that Friday, June 27, 2025 will be the first day of the month of Muharram 1447 AH (start of the New Hijri Year 1447 AH)


The meeting was chaired by Dr Mohammed Said al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and attended by the panel members, who were: Shaikh Dr Kahlan Nabhan al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Eng Khalid Hilal al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Ahmed Saleh al Rashdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, as well as Supreme Court judges Mohammed Salim al Akhzami, Abdul Rahman Abdul Sattar al Kamali and Mohammed Salim al Nahdi.


The Main Moonsighting Committee’s meeting was aimed at receiving reports of the crescent moon of the Hijri month of Muharram 1447 AH.


The committee did not receive any reports of the new crescent moon’s sighting and, accordingly, announced that Thursday (26 June 2025) is the 30th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH, and that Friday (27 June 2025) is the first day of the month of Muharram 1447 AH.


On this auspicious occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extended its sincere greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying to the Almighty Allah to grant His Majesty many happy comebacks of the event and endow him with good health, wellbeing and blessings.


The committee also prayed to the Almighty to bestow abundant bounties and glory upon Oman and to endow all Muslims with blessings, prosperity and success.
