

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received separate phone calls on Sunday from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkiye and Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the Federal Republic of Germany. Both discussions focused on the escalating regional situation and the importance of de-escalation efforts to safeguard peace and stability.
During the call with President Erdogan, the two leaders discussed the latest developments surrounding the Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its alarming repercussions across the region. The conversation explored avenues to reduce tensions and halt hostilities, with a view to preserving the security of nations and the welfare of their peoples.
The two sides affirmed the need to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy, advocating a return to negotiations and a firm commitment to international law as the most effective approach to resolving disputes and preventing further escalation.
In a separate call, Chancellor Merz addressed with His Majesty the Sultan the broader regional tensions and the pressing need to bolster international efforts aimed at reducing conflicts. Both leaders underscored the significance of reinforcing initiatives that contribute to regional and global stability.
The German Chancellor expressed his deep appreciation for Oman’s balanced foreign policy and its ongoing role in promoting peace and dialogue. He praised the Sultanate’s efforts to bridge perspectives among differing parties, support mutual cooperation, and enhance opportunities for dignified living around the world.
His Majesty the Sultan, in turn, lauded the German government’s endeavours in upholding international security and fostering cooperative relations rooted in mutual respect and shared interests.
