But with temperatures soaring above 46 °C in several regions, many are turning to nature’s own remedy — Oman's wadis — to escape the heat. These freshwater wadis, scattered across the Sultanate of Oman, offer lush palm groves, dramatic cliffs and most importantly — cool, flowing water.
Whether you’re seeking adventure or serenity, here’s a curated list of some of the best wadis to visit this holiday, ranging from popular tourist spots to hidden gems.
WADI AL SHAB: The Icon of Natural Beauty, Location: Tiwi, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, Highlights: Clear turquoise pools, hidden cave waterfall, hiking trails. One of Oman’s most iconic wadis, Wadi Al Shab is a favourite among locals and tourists alike. After a short boat ride and a scenic hike through dramatic gorges, visitors are rewarded with emerald pools and a secret cave waterfall. With year-round flowing water and picnic spots under date palms, it’s ideal for a relaxed day out. However, expect some crowd during the holidays.
WADI AL ARBEIEEN: The Untamed Beauty, Location: Qurayat, Muscat Governorate, Highlights: Deep pools, towering cliffs, 4x4 access, A more rugged and remote option, Wadi Al Arbeieen is known for its dramatic scenery and deep freshwater pools.
