Muscat, May 18
The two-day Vocational Integration Forum for Rehabilitation Centres, Schools and Colleges, titled "Skills Without Barriers," organised by the Ministry of Social Development, targeting school and university students, as well as employers from companies that employ trainees kicked off on Sunday.
The forum aims to promote the social and professional integration of persons with disabilities, highlight their capabilities and potential and develop the practical skills of trainees through interactive workshops. It also seeks to enhance cooperation between educational institutions and rehabilitation centres to create joint training opportunities, in addition to providing a supportive environment for expressing creativity and exchanging experiences.
Talal al Hasani, Director of the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Al Seeb, Ministry of Social Development, said: "The importance of organising this forum for persons with disabilities is to contribute to their integration into society in all fields by providing appropriate training and rehabilitation, highlighting their energies and capabilities, and making them a productive group that contributes to the comprehensive development process."
The first day of the forum featured several workshops, including a handicrafts workshop, including leatherwork, hand-weaving and handicrafts. The forum also featured an exhibition showcasing workshop products and awareness workshops.
The forum continues on Monday with carpentry and woodwork design workshops, where participants are taught the art of creating decorative paintings, doors, windows and carved sculptures, and a metalworks workshop covering metal industries such as doors, decorations, various sculptures and other industries. Also, a paper recycling workshop will showcase how to benefit from recycled paper manufacturing and even participants are also well-trained in agriculture and gardening, including soil treatment, pruning and decorating trees.
