'We Are Closer' campaign to empower people with disabilities

To address the needs of people with disabilities and provide them better services, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has launched 'We Are Closer' campaign.


The initiative included a meeting attended by representatives of associations and institutions who work for people with disabilities and experts.


The “We Are Closer” initiative aims to involve people with disabilities in the decision-making process and listen to their opinions and suggestions on how to improve and develop the services provided to them.


Among the most prominent issues discussed during the meeting were facilitating access to government services, providing assistive technology and improving the quality of some services to better meet the needs of people with disabilities. The discussion also addressed the importance of integrating their requirements into urban plans and ensuring the provision of appropriate facilities in various government facilities.


Amani bint Ali al Balushiyah, Director of Unified Service in Muscat and a member of the Services Quality and Procedures Simplification Committee, said the ministry pays great attention to people with disabilities and is constantly working to identify their needs. She added that the ministry seeks to simplify procedures and provide appropriate facilities for people with disabilities within its various plans and programmes, which contribute to improving their quality of life and integrating them into society.


The ministry works to achieve these goals through partnerships with various stakeholders, and ensuring continuous coordination with associations and institutions representing people with disabilities.

This initiative comes within the context of the ministry’s vision to achieve parity and equality among all members of society and to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities to benefit from government services.


The “We Are Closer” initiative reflects the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning’s commitment to achieving tangible improvements in the quality of services provided to people with disabilities, and to provide sustainable solutions that meet their needs.


This initiative is expected to contribute to achieving significant progress in improving the services provided to people with disabilities and enhancing their participation in society. Through this initiative, the ministry also emphasises the importance of working together with various stakeholders to ensure the achievement of the desired goals and enhance the quality of life for all citizens.
