Muscat: With the global economy moving towards a digital economy, the 'Safe Shopping Campaign' will be launched today, Wednesday, organised by the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), that aims to raise community awareness of the principles of safe online shopping, enhance knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of consumers and promote the legal awareness of providers in accordance with the governing laws and regulations.

The campaign is being held under the slogan 'For Safe Shopping' and was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and several relevant authorities.

It aims to empower consumers to make informed and safe purchasing decisions and combat commercial fraud and scams in e-commerce.

According to CPA, the target audience includes service providers, online merchants, those working and influential in the consumer sector, relevant government institutions, legal professionals and specialists in electronic fraud.

The campaign addresses the concepts of the digital economy and e-commerce, consumer rights and responsibilities, suppliers' duties and legal obligations, steps for safe online shopping, commercial fraud and e-fraud in the digital consumer environment, and the CPA's role and responsibilities in protecting online consumers.

CPA clarified that the campaign will be implemented through the preparation of various awareness-raising clips and publications, podcast episodes, the organisation of television and radio interviews, and the delivery of live and virtual awareness lectures and workshops. It will also provide lectures and knowledge meetings for consumers in various government, private and educational institutions, promote social media coverage and publish awareness publications on shopping mall screens. The campaign will also include organising a knowledge forum on consumer rights and supplier responsibilities in the context of online shopping.
