MUSCAT, JAN 8
Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology wrapped up its Digital Economy Awareness Tour, a nationwide initiative aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation and supporting the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040. The two-month-long tour covered 11 governorates, drawing participation from nearly 1,000 individuals representing various sectors.
The ministry said in a statement that the tour sought to raise awareness of the digital economy’s pivotal role in Oman’s development, providing insights into the strategic directions of the National Programme for Digital Economy. It also focused on equipping local authorities and communities with tools to align with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritizes digital transformation as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Participants engaged in discussions on a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, cybersecurity, financial technologies, and government digital transformation. The sessions also outlined the strategic and operational frameworks of the National Programme for Digital Economy, emphasizing collaboration with governorates to meet national objectives.
“These topics reflect our commitment to fostering a comprehensive understanding of the digital economy and its potential to drive economic diversification,” the ministry noted, highlighting its goal of preparing Oman to adopt the latest digital technologies.
The awareness tour was held in partnership with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Central Bank of Oman, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, alongside local authorities. According to the ministry, these partnerships demonstrate Oman’s coordinated approach to developing its digital economy.
Officials emphasized that such collaborations are vital for strengthening the digital infrastructure, enabling economic growth, and enhancing the nation’s readiness to attract investments in the digital sphere.
The initiative forms part of Oman’s broader strategy to integrate digital transformation into its economic framework. By targeting governorates, the programme aims to build local capacities, promote innovation, and establish a digital ecosystem that meets the demands of future generations.
The ministry described the tour as “a significant step” in achieving the objectives of Vision 2040. “It’s not just about technology—it’s about creating opportunities, improving quality of life, and preparing Oman for a competitive global digital economy,” the statement added.
With its focus on community engagement and knowledge-sharing, the Digital Economy Awareness Tour underscores Oman’s ambition to position itself as a leader in digital transformation. Officials believe these efforts will help address key challenges, while fostering a more inclusive and sustainable economic environment.
