Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has temporarily shut down a commercial establishment in Muscat following a judicial order, due to repeated violations and failure to address consumer complaints.
According to the authority, the decision came after the firm, operating in the vehicle repair sector, failed to comply with regulations related to service delivery and consumer rights.
Multiple complaints had been filed by consumers who claimed the establishment did not fullfil its contractual obligations within the agreed timeframe and under specified conditions.
Despite repeated attempts by the CPA to engage with the business and resolve the complaints, the company reportedly showed a lack of cooperation, transparency, and credibility.
The firm’s conduct was found to be in violation of Article (23) of the Consumer Protection Law, which obliges suppliers to provide services in a proper manner and within a timeframe suitable to the nature of the service.
The law also mandates that in cases of failure, suppliers must either refund the value of the service, rectify the deficiencies, or re-perform the service appropriately.
In light of the company’s continued non-compliance and its disregard for consumer rights, the CPA referred the matter to the Public Prosecution, which issued a temporary closure order.
The establishment will remain closed until legal proceedings are concluded.
