A regional symposium on improving the ranking of Arab universities in international rankings kicked off on Wednesday in Muscat.

The two-day event is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. It is held under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

The symposium is organised in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) and Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. It seeks to promote the academic reputation of Omani universities and consolidate their competitive status at regional and international levels.

The symposium provides an opportunity to introduce strategies that align educational institutions' practices with international standards and improve key areas of performance like the quality of academic output, the effectiveness of educational methodologies and the impact of scholarly research.

Besides presenting insights into Arab and international ranking systems and accreditation frameworks, the symposium also provides universities with new measures necessary for enhancing their reputation and augmenting their rankings. — ONA
