Muscat: The Public Services Regulatory Authority has announced the implementation of varying discounts on electricity consumption bills for the residential category (basic account) during the summer months, starting from May and continuing until the end of August 2025. It also confirmed the continued fixing of the electricity consumption unit price brackets for the year 2025 without any changes.

The discount rates for the month of May will be distributed as follows: subscribers in the first tier (consumption between 0 and 4,000 kilowatt-hours) will receive a 15% discount on the bill amount; subscribers in the second tier (consumption between 4,001 and 6,000 kilowatt-hours) will benefit from a 10% discount; and a discount rate of 5% will be applied to subscribers in the third tier (consumption exceeding 6,001 kilowatt-hours).

The discount rates will increase during the months of June, July, and August, reaching 20% for the first tier, 15% for the second tier, and 10% for the third tier.

The Authority has directed the licensed companies to commit to not disconnecting electricity service for subscribers under the basic account category during the summer months. It also instructed them to provide an option to pay electricity bill dues in instalments during this period, in accordance with the approved regulatory framework, to ensure the continued provision of service and to enhance the protection of subscribers’ rights during the peak demand period caused by rising summer temperatures. The Authority urged those who meet the eligibility requirements to register their information in the National Support System in order to benefit from the package of provided facilities and incentives. — ONA
