Muscat: The number of visitors to the village of Wakan in Wadi Mistal in the Wilayat of Nakhal in the South Al Batinah Governorate in the four months of this year was 19,270, including foreign tourists, statistics issued by the village's tourist guide office, affiliated with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The village witnesses a large influx of visitors. Statistics show that February of each year is the month that attracts the most tourist traffic to the village, with 7,888 visitors, compared to 6,499 in February 2024 and 4,974 in February 2023.
The village of Wakan is one of the tourist attractions in South Al Batinah Governorate due to its moderate climate during the summer. Its weather is similar to other high-altitude areas in the Western al Hajar Mountains, which helps residents to exploit the weather conditions in agriculture, as its agricultural crops vary throughout the year, especially the agricultural crops whose fruits grow best in areas with moderate weather in the summer, such as apricot, pomegranate, peach, walnut, grape trees, and other crops.
The agricultural trail in the village of Wakan is one of the most beautiful tourist experiences for visitors, as it provides them with a sense of adventure, discovery, and enjoyment of the village's mountainous environment. Visitors are required to climb more than 600 steps to reach the highest point. The village also includes clear landmarks that indicate its ancient role and architecture, including an ancient mosque, landmarks of the old neighborhood, and agricultural terraces whose history dates back to the period when the village was built hundreds of years ago.
Farmers in the village of Wakan have started apricots. The price of one kilogram ranges between two and three Omani riyals, depending on the type and quality of the fruit. The apricot crop in the village is one of the most important sources of income for farmers.
