

NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 63rd session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development at its headquarters in New York, which was held under the title ‘Promoting Solidarity, Inclusion and Social Cohesion to Implement the Commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development’ and lasted for five days.
During the session, Ambassador Omar bin Saeed al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, delivered a speech in which he explained the social support programmes that come within the social protection system and social insurance programmes, which ensure the achievement of comprehensiveness and justice in social policies, in accordance with the Sultanate of Oman’s Vision 2040 to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
The participation of the Sultanate of Oman, through its permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York, reviewed national efforts to enhance solidarity and social cohesion by adopting comprehensive policies and programmes that focus on empowering various segments of society. It also comes as a confirmation of its commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at accelerating the achievement of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and promoting the basic principles of the Copenhagen Programme of Action, thus contributing to building more inclusive and prosperous societies.
It is worth noting that the session's activities focused on discussing pivotal issues in social development, including combating poverty, promoting social integration, and achieving social justice, in addition to exchanging experiences among member states regarding the implementation of sustainable development policies. — ONA
