Muscat: In a move to encourage environmental awareness and residential greenery, the process of obtaining a free tree-planting permit has been simplified for Omani citizens.
Muscat Municipality said that the public can easily apply through the ministry’s website, mobile application, or by visiting any “Sanad” service office across the Sultanate of Oman.
In a statement to Oman Radio, Eng. Issa bin Salem Al-Owaisi, Director of the Parks and Landscaping Department, said the streamlined procedure aims to support individuals who are building new homes or have received housing grants, with no requirement for renewing the permit periodically.
“Applicants only need to submit the request once,” clarified Eng Issa.
Importantly, individuals who planted trees in previous years and whose efforts have not caused damage to roads or public infrastructure are exempted from the latest permit regulations and do not need to apply again.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader commitment to urban beautification, sustainability, and supporting citizen-led greening efforts in residential areas.
