Muscat: Al Bashayer Club secured an exciting 3-2 victory over Seeb on Monday evening in a match held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, as part of the final qualifiers of the Oman First Division Volleyball League.
The match began with high competitiveness, as both teams traded leads in the first set. Al Bashayer capitalised on individual errors from Seeb and benefited from the attacking brilliance of its Uzbek professional, Islam, alongside Mazen al Hashemi. Despite strong resistance from Seeb, led by Ismail al Haidi and Saud al Maamari, Al Bashayer claimed the first set 25-21.
In the second set, Al Bashayer continued to dominate as Seeb players seemed to lose focus. Despite efforts from their professional player Doglan to narrow the gap, A -Bashayer took the set with the same score: 25-21.
Seeb bounced back strongly in the third set, asserting control from the start by taking a 4-0 lead, exploiting Al Bashayer's complacency. Seeb won the set convincingly 25-17.
The fourth set was intense and evenly matched, with both teams trading points until a 24-24 tie. Seeb’s experience gave them the edge to take the set 26-24, forcing a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, the match reached peak excitement, with both teams battling fiercely until the end. Ultimately, Al Bashayer managed to seal the victory 20-18, earning a valuable win that reshuffled the standings.
AL SALAM TAKE CHARGE
In another match of the second phase of the league qualifiers, Al Salam Club earned a well-deserved straight-set victory over Majees in a match held at the Sohar Sports Complex.
Al Salam controlled the match from the start, thanks to the outstanding performance of their Bahraini Mohammed Yaqoub and Khalid Nasser. They clinched the first set by a narrow margin, 25-23, then widened the gap in the second set to win 25-21, and comfortably sealed the third set 25-17.
On the other hand, Majees delivered a lacklustre performance, far from their usual level, as their players failed to meet expectations despite the support from their fans in attendance.
Despite the loss, Seeb remain at the top of the standings, followed by Majees in second. Al Salam moved up to third place, while Al Bashayer climbed to fourth after their remarkable victory.
