MUSCAT: Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), has urged Omani youth to pursue opportunities in the country’s burgeoning industrial maintenance sector, describing it as one of the most promising fields in light of the sector’s rapid growth and increasing technical demands.
Speaking during OPAZ’s annual media briefing, Dr Al Sunaidy revealed that total investments in Oman’s industrial sector have now surpassed RO 21 billion, highlighting a pivotal shift in the nation’s industrial landscape.
“Industrial maintenance services will be critical in sustaining operations across factories and production facilities, especially as Oman expands its industrial base,” said Dr Al Sunaidy. “This presents a significant employment opportunity for young Omanis, particularly those trained in technical and vocational fields.”
The official stressed that the growing number of factories, both current and planned, will require consistent and advanced maintenance services to ensure operational efficiency, reliability, and safety. He added that OPAZ is actively enhancing infrastructure and fostering innovation, digitisation, and sustainability across its economic and industrial zones — developments that will only intensify the need for skilled maintenance professionals.
He encouraged young Omanis to consider vocational training in areas such as mechanical, electrical, and digital systems maintenance, describing these specialisations as vital for Oman’s industrial resilience and long-term economic diversification.
As the Sultanate of Oman continues to roll out new industrial zones and deepen integration between free zones and industrial cities, demand for operational support services — especially maintenance — is projected to rise sharply. This shift offers a pathway for job creation, localisation, and technical upskilling, aligning closely with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040.
