Passenger traffic at Oman airports reaches 2.5 million by February

MUSCAT: Oman’s airports saw a dip in overall passenger traffic, with 2,535,246 travelers recorded by the end of February 2025 — a 6.7% decrease compared to 2,717,835 passengers during the same period in 2024, according to preliminary data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


Muscat International Airport, the country’s primary gateway, handled approximately 2,280,280 passengers in the first two months of 2025 — down 7.5% from 2,463,856 passengers a year earlier. Total flights at the airport also declined by 11%, dropping to 15,133 compared to 16,996 flights in the same period last year.


Salalah Airport was a bright spot, registering a 5.4% increase in passenger numbers to reach 244,590, up from 232,077. However, the total number of flights declined by 8.1%, standing at 1,444 compared to 1,572 flights during the same period last year.


Sohar Airport experienced the sharpest decline among all airports. Passenger numbers plummeted by 98%, with just 226 travelers recorded, compared to 11,410 in the same period of 2024. Flights also dropped significantly — down 74.5% to only 28 flights.


Duqm Airport saw marginal decreases. The number of flights slipped by 3.8% to 100, while passenger numbers dipped by 3.3% to 10,150, compared to 10,492 travelers last year.


In terms of nationalities passing through Muscat International Airport in February 2025, Indian nationals topped the list with 146,418 passengers — including 75,510 arrivals and 70,908 departures. Omani nationals closely followed with 145,060 passengers (82,244 arrivals and 62,816 departures).
