Jordan’s bid to host fifth Tent Pegging World Championship approved

The General Assembly of the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF), chaired by President Mohammed bin Issa al Fairuz, approved Jordan’s bid to host the fifth Tent Pegging World Championship during its annual meeting held at the Movenpick Hotel in Muscat on Wednesday.


The assembly also approved the membership applications of Slovakia, France, Japan and Uzbekistan alongside discussions on several topics aimed at development of tent pegging sport globally.


At the start of the meeting, ITPF chief expressed deep appreciation to the leadership and people of Oman for hosting the federation's headquarters and for their ongoing financial and moral support. “There were key international championships organised under the federation's supervision in the past year. In January 2024, Egypt hosted the second edition of the Military Tent Pegging Championship. In July, Russia hosted the fourth edition of the International Traditional Dress Tent Pegging Championship,” he added.


Al Fairuz thanked the host countries for supporting these unique events encouraging other member nations to follow suit in hosting international championships to promote the sport.


He concluded his statement with federation’s continuous efforts to diversify competitions across continents to increase global engagement and thanked the board and general assembly members for their dedication to the advancement of this historic sport.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2026


The assembly officially approved Jordan’s proposal to host the fifth Tent Pegging World Championship in 2026. The proposal included logistical plans and key elements that support Jordan’s capacity to successfully organise the event. The group stage draw for the World Championship was also conducted during the meeting.


Group A comprised Iraq, South Africa, Sudan, Russia, Malaysia and Belarus teams while Group B featured India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Germany, Jordan, Norway and Indonesia. Oman team were clubbed in Group C with Pakistan, Qatar, USA, Uzbekistan and UK while Group D included Yemen, Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, Canada and Libya.


NEW MEMBER NATIONS


The General Assembly welcomed Slovakia, France, Japan, and Uzbekistan as new members of the International Tent Pegging Federation family.


Iraq submitted a request to host the qualifiers for Group A, while Uzbekistan requested to host Group C qualifiers and Egypt applied to host Group D qualifiers for the World Championship 2026 in Jordan.
