MUSCAT: The 12th Fak Kurba Initiative has successfully secured the release of 999 financially distressed individuals since its launch before Ramadhan.

This edition, launched on February 25, under the auspices of Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA), has so far secured the release of more than 8,000 individuals over the years.

Dr Al Rubaie affirmed that the efforts of those involved in the initiative are ongoing to secure the release of more cases. He highlighted the significant support the initiative has been receiving from institutions, companies and individuals.

"And this year, the initiative aimed to secure the release of as many individuals who are detained for small financial offences with the participation of community members and various institutions from across the country," he said.

Al Rubaei thanked all supporters who have contributed to the initiative’s success.

Al Rubaie highlighted that since its inception, the initiative has embodied the noble values and objectives upheld by Omani society. It reflects a remarkable story of cooperation and solidarity among individuals, civil institutions, and official entities.

"This has been evident in the statistics and achievements recorded throughout previous editions, as well as assisting as many deserving individuals as possible." Most of the people who were acquitted of minor and unintentional financial offences in the past 12 years, were those who were facing legal proceedings or detained for financial offences.

He further said that the initiative has succeeded in securing the release of all eligible cases in the Governorate of Dhofar.

"In 2024 alone, we managed to secure the release of 1,219 people detained for financial offences in various jails of Oman or were facing legal proceedings in different courts of the country," he said.
