Sultan’s Cup camel racing from April 6 to 10

The Royal Court Affairs represented by the Royal Camel Corps (RCC) has announced the final camel race for the season 2024-25, which is the Sultan’s Cup Festival 2025.


The festival is set to take place from April 6 to 10, at the Al Fulaij Track in the Wilayat of Barka in Al Batinah South Governorate.


The event will feature 77 races across various camel categories in the corporation with Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF).


The opening day, April 6, will be 32 races for the ‘Hagayeg’ category, two years old, for 4 km. 23 races will be in the morning with cash prizes for the top ten. In the afternoon, there will be nine main races with cars and four icons as prizes for the winner and cash prizes for the top 10.


The second day, April 7, will be 20 races for the ‘Lagaya’ category, three years old, for 5 km divided into 14 races in the morning with a cash prize for the top 10. Six main races will start in the afternoon, with six cars, and four icons for the winners and cash prizes up to 10th place.


The third day, April 8, will be nine races for the ‘Yathaa’ category, 4 years old, for a 6 km in the morning with three cars and two icons, as well as cash prizes for the top 10.


Additionally, the morning session will feature three races for human riders over 2 km, featuring a car and cash prizes for the top ten.


On the fourth day morning, April 9, there will be three races for the ‘Thanaya’ category, 5 years old, for a distance of 8 km. Four races are allocated for the ‘Al Hawl’ category, 6 years and above. Each category will have a car and two icons in addition to the cash prizes for the top 10.


Participation Requirements


The Royal Camel Corps has outlined general conditions for participation in the festival allocated only for purebred Omani camels wholly owned by Omani citizens.


The Oman Camel Racing Federation will ensure that participants adhere to strict anti-doping regulations, prohibiting the use of any stimulants or banned substances.


All race-winning camels will undergo testing for prohibited substances, and any violations will result in the forfeiture of prizes and the imposition of penalties per the federation’s regulations.


Specific rules have also been set for human rider races; the Omani rider must be at least 18 years old.


Sultan’s Cup Competitions


The final day will feature 6 prestigious races:


Read as round, category, race distance, prize


First race, ‘Hagayeg’, 4 km, Sultan’s Cup and a car


Second race, ‘Lagaya’, 5 km, Sultan’s Cup and a car


Third race, ‘Yathaa’, 6 km, Sultan’s Cup and a car


Fourth race, ‘Thanaya’, 8 km, Sultan’s Cup and a car


Fifth race, ‘Al Hawl’, 8 km, Sultan’s Cup and a car


Final race, Human Rider, 2 km, a car and icon.
