MUSCAT: A football tournament against the growing menace of drug abuse and consumption of psychotropic substances across the world was conducted by some football lovers at the at the Gubra Football Ground.


Organised with the slogan ‘Say no to Drugs, Say yes to Football’, football enthusiasts, players and their families from various walks of life in Oman came together to raise awareness through a sports event against the increasing drug abuse in the world.


The tournament was inaugurated by Niaz Abdul Khader, MD of United Cargo and at the official opening ceremony of the tournament, players and officials took the anti-drug pledge.

Niyaz said that staying away from serious sports and activities; and being self-absorbed is what leads children to bad habits like drug addiction and that drugs that are used for fun first and then lead to the tragedy of addiction and that once they taste drugs like football, that will be the greatest treasure in life.


‘Story House’ emerged as the winner of the tournament in which four teams competed on a round-robin league basis and United Cargo Fruits and Vegetables also won the Runners' Trophy. Thabit was selected as the best player and Jiad as the goalkeeper. Ramla Abdulkhader distributed the trophy for the winners and Laibu Muhammad distributed the trophy for the runners. Ziyad led the programme and welcomed the players and their families to the event organised by Unichira and Lebish thanked the participants.
