Muscat: The spring equinox (aka the vernal equinox) begins this year in the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday, marking the first day of spring, according to the Omani Society for Astronomy and Space.
According to astronomical calculations, the spring equinox will occur in the Sultanate of Oman at 1:07 PM Oman local time today (Thursday), according to Asma bint Salem al Farsiyah, a member of the Omani Society for Astronomy and Space.

The sun will appear directly above the Equator on Thursday and in Muscat Governorate, the sun will rise at 6:11 AM. Today, day and night will be of equal length in most countries around the world with daylight lasting 12 hours, 7 minutes, and 24 seconds in Muscat Governorate, al Farsiyah said, explaining that this phenomenon occurs because the Earth is tilted on its axis by 23.5 degrees during its rotation around the sun, which leads to a difference in the amount of solar radiation between the two hemispheres of the Earth throughout the year. Each country has its own day in which night and day are equal according to its location on the equator.
