Seeb and Al Bashayer clubs secured crucial victories on Monday in the final round of the first phase of the final qualifiers for the 2024/2025 Oman Volleyball League (OVL).
In a match held at the Sohar Sports Complex, Seeb earned a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Al Salam after a highly competitive game, especially in the early sets.
Seeb started strong, imposing its style of play in the first set and leveraging the experience of its players to clinch key points, ultimately winning the set 25-21. However, Al Salam made a strong comeback in the second set, displaying solid blocking and precise attacking plays to snatch the set 26-24 after a fierce battle until the final moments.
In the third set, Seeb regained control, benefiting from powerful offensive strikes and swift transitions between defence and attack, securing the set 25-20. The fourth set was highly competitive, with Al Salam attempting to stay in the game. However, Seeb maintained their composure and showcased strong serving and reception skills to take the set 25-21, sealing a full-point victory.
Meanwhile, in the second match held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Al Bashayer achieved a commanding three-set victory over Masirah.
The encounter was intense from the start, with both teams exchanging leads until the final moments of the first set, which Al Bashayer narrowly won 26-24, capitalising on strong blocking and precise serves. In the second set, Al Bashayer increased the pace of their play and capitalised on Masirah's defensive errors, securing a comfortable 25-20 win.
In the third set, Al Bashayer confirmed its dominance with fast-paced attacks and solid defensive organisation, maintaining their lead throughout the set despite Masirah's attempts to mount a comeback. Al Bashayer sealed the set 25-19, completing a straight-set victory and affirming its readiness for the upcoming stages of the competition.
Seeb Lead the Standings as the First Phase Concludes
After the first phase of the final qualifiers, Seeb topped the standings with 10 points, followed by Majees with 8 points. Al Salam and Al Bashayer are tied with 6 points each, while Masirah remains at the bottom with no points.
Second Phase Kicks Off on Saturday
The second phase of the final qualifiers will begin next Saturday, with Seeb facing Masirah at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, while Majees will take on Al Bashayer at Al Amal Club Hall in Bausher.
According to the tournament format, the final stage follows a direct knockout system, where the top-ranked team faces the fourth-placed team, and the second-placed team meets the third. The winners will advance to the final to compete for the league title, while the losing teams will battle for third place.
