DUQM: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has invited specialised consultancy firms to bid for a tender to develop an integrated economic cluster for cold chains at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD).

The tender documents are available on the electronic platform "Isnad" of the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, with a purchase deadline of March 18 and a bid submission deadline of April 17.

According to Eng Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, the project aims to establish world-class cold chain infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency of storage and distribution for perishable goods such as food and pharmaceuticals. By improving logistics and reducing waste, the initiative will boost the competitiveness of Omani exports while supporting the country's economic diversification efforts.

“The project is designed to meet international standards, ensuring Omani products gain smoother access to global markets,” Akaak stated. He also highlighted Al Duqm’s strategic location on the Arabian Sea and its connectivity to international shipping lanes as a key advantage.

SEZAD’s existing infrastructure — including Duqm Port, Duqm Airport and the fishing port — positions the area as an ideal hub for cold chain logistics. The project is expected to attract foreign investment, create jobs for Omanis and stimulate growth in the logistics sector.
