Shooting Stars lead women's Ramadhan basketball

MUSCAT: The fourth Women's Ramadhan Basketball Championship, organised by the Women's Sports Committee of the Oman Basketball Association, kicked off at the secondary hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The tournament features five participating teams: Shooting Stars, Betal, Al Amerat Club, Ahli Sidab Club and OQ8 Team. The first week witnessed four decisive victories, with Shooting Stars leading the standings with four points after securing two consecutive wins, marking a strong start in the competition.


In the opening match, Shooting Stars clinched a hard-fought and thrilling victory against Betal with a score of 27-25. The game saw significant shifts in momentum, as Betal initially took the lead in the first two quarters. However, Shooting Stars made a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, managing to equalise and forcing the game into a decisive fifth period, where they emerged victorious. The team’s triumph was largely attributed to the outstanding performances of Fatima al Numani and Noor al Kharousi, while Kristyna Storkova and Warda Ibrahim stood out for Betal.

In the second match, Al Amerat Club dominated their encounter against Ahli Sidab Club, securing a commanding 39-6 victory. Al Amerat controlled the game from the start, finishing the first quarter with a remarkable 20-0 lead and maintaining their dominance throughout the second and third quarters. The win was fuelled by the stellar performances of Nareem al Maamari, Asilah Yasser and Reema al Khameini. On the other hand, Fay al Jardani and Maryam al Mahrouqi made efforts to narrow the gap for Ahli Sidab, but to no avail.


The third match was a much closer contest between Shooting Stars and Al Amerat Club, ending in a narrow 21-20 victory for Shooting Stars. The game remained competitive until the final seconds, with Al Amerat taking the lead in the first quarter before Shooting Stars fought back in the second. The four quarters concluded with tightly contested scores. Shamssldsha, Nelly Slaibi and Sara al Said played key roles in Shooting Stars' win, while Ghadeer al Ismaili was the standout performer for Al Amerat, scoring 17 points.

In the fourth match, OQ8 Team secured their first win in the tournament by defeating Betal 27-23. Duqm Refinery started strong, leading in the first three quarters before Betal mounted a late comeback attempt in the final period. However, the decisive performances of Alina Perosko, Aida Mohamedi and Tamathir Yousef ensured victory for OQ8. On the opposing side, Katherinsi and Warda Ibrahim were the top scorers for Betal.


With these results, Shooting Stars remains at the top of the standings with four points, while the other teams look to improve their rankings in the upcoming rounds.
