Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman topped the list of the least polluted Arab countries in the Global Pollution Index for 2025, issued by the Numbeo platform and came in 22nd place globally.
This classification reflects the continuous efforts made by Oman to preserve environmental quality, promote sustainability, reduce pollution and improve the quality of life.
The global pollution index is based on several factors, most notably air and water quality, waste management, noise pollution and the availability of green spaces. Oman recorded low levels of pollution compared to the countries of the region, which contributed to achieving this advanced ranking.
The strict environmental policies pursued by Oman, along with sustainable projects, are the main factors behind this success, as the government works to promote the use of clean energy, expand afforestation projects and develop waste management systems, ensuring a healthy and clean environment.
This achievement comes at a time when many major industrial countries are facing major environmental challenges due to urban and industrial expansion, making Oman’s experience a model to be emulated in the region and the world.
The classification also reflects the pivotal role played by the Environment Authority in implementing environmental strategies within Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on achieving sustainable development and preserving natural resources for future generations.
This classification confirms that Oman is not only an ideal destination to live thanks to its clean environment, but it is also an example of the balance between economic development and nature conservation, which enhances its global position in environmental indicators. — ONA
