MUSCAT: The Omani-Iranian Joint Business Council convened via videoconference to discuss strategies for enhancing economic cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting was co-chaired by Mohammed bin Abdul Hussein Baqer from the Omani side and Jamal Razeqi from the Iranian side.

A key topic of discussion was the development of a smart electronic platform designed to streamline commercial operations and accelerate business transactions between the two countries. The council also reviewed the allocation of dedicated spaces in Oman for Iranian companies specialising in innovation and knowledge-based industries, aiming to attract investments in these high-growth sectors.

The meeting further explored avenues for increased collaboration in pharmaceuticals, health products and food trade. The possibility of establishing a direct shipping line between Oman and Iran was also considered as a means to strengthen bilateral trade and logistics efficiency.

Mohammed bin Abdul Hussein Baqer emphasised that the council is committed to following up on the proposals discussed, ensuring their swift implementation. He reaffirmed the council’s goal of fostering economic and trade relations between Oman and Iran. — ONA
