Muscat: In Ramadhan, many institutions and businesses unveil community initiatives to help needy families in Oman as part of social responsibility and community solidarity. Al Sharqiya Desalination Company launched three community initiatives on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadhan, under the auspices of Talib al Balushi, Member of Majlis Ash’Shura, in the presence of the company’s CEO Murshid bin Abdullah bin Salim Al Fanah al Araimi and Dr Saleh bin Hamad al Alawi, Director of Social Responsibility at the company.
The initiatives launched include the Iftar Saem initiative, which aims to provide 200 meals daily to fasting people throughout the holy month; support for 100 families with limited income by providing basic food kits; and support for orphans, which aims to meet their needs during the Eid and bring joy to their hearts.
Speaking during the launch of the initiatives, Al Fana, stressed that the company is keen every year, before Ramadhan, to launch its programmes aimed at supporting needy groups.
Dr Al Alawi said that social responsibility is not just seasonal initiatives but rather a sustainable commitment through which the company seeks to improve the social and economic conditions of society. “We believe that social responsibility is a commitment that individuals and institutions have towards society. This commitment includes working to improve social, economic and environmental conditions, and ensuring that the activities we undertake are beneficial to society in general. This social cohesion is most evident during the holy month of Ramadan, as companies contribute to providing assistance to needy families, which alleviates their suffering and provides them with a decent living.” Majlis Ash’Shura member Al Balushi appreciated the role played by Al Sharqiya Desalination Company in contributing to improve the lives of the needy people. "It is an honour to launch the social responsibility initiatives in the Wilayat of Sur, within the framework of strengthening the partnership in the community role played by the company." Al Balushi stressed that such initiatives enhance trust between companies and the community, and emphasise the importance of the role that private sector institutions can play in improving the quality of life, especially during major religious and social occasions such as Ramadhan.
These initiatives represent a model to be emulated in cooperation between the private sector and the community, as they contribute to alleviating the economic burdens faced by many families. Providing daily Iftar meals for the fasting, enhances the spirit of solidarity and community participation. Supporting orphans during Eid also helps bring smiles to their faces.
The efforts of Al Sharqiya Desalination Company are not limited to these initiatives. The company seeks to expand the scope of its relief activities every year to bring in more beneficiaries.
